Christ Church Shimla History:
Simla was entirely forest when the first Europeans arrived in the 1820s. On Jakhoo Hill, there were two or three derelict shepherd’s cabins and a little “Hanuman temple.” The Europeans sought permission to build dwellings on the Raia of Keonthal, from whose state much of Simla was ultimately carved away.
Captain Charles Kennedy was the British Government’s Political Agent in these hill states. In the late 1820s, he erected the first house and the estate known as Kennedy House. Later, in 1827, Lord Amherst, the Governor General, visited Simla on a summer visit and stayed at the Kennedy House. By the 1830s, some sixty residences had been built for British visitors, and Simla had become a health retreat for them.

Christ Church Shimla was built in the neo-Gothic style. The church is lit at night to provide illumination.
The Five features of Shimla Christ Church have five beautiful stained glass windows. The Christian qualities of Faith, Hope, Charity, Fortitude, Patience, and Humility are represented by one. Lockwood Kipling created the chancel window (father of Rudyard Kipling). Christ Church’s pipe organ is the largest in the Indian subcontinent, and it was installed in September 1899.Among the church’s possessions are a large number of books and ancient scriptures.
