Marleshwar Temple :
Marleshwar is a village in the Sangameshwar subdivision of the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, India. Marleshwar Temple is a small Shiva Temple that takes about an hour and a half to reach by car. The Marleshwar Mandir is accessible by climbing approximately 300-400 steps, which are lined with refreshment stalls to keep pilgrims hydrated as they climb. The Shiva Temple is housed within a cave and has a small viewing platform from which to admire the magnificent Dhareshwar Waterfalls. Thousands of devotees visit the Marleshwar Shiva Temple each year and perform ablutions in the nearby Bav river.

Although Marleshwar Temple Ratnagiri is most popular for religious beliefs, its location makes it popular with thrill seekers as well. This temple is surrounded by the Sahyadri range and the Dhareshwar Waterfalls, and its treacherous yet exhilarating pathways, as well as its natural environment, make it a nature lover’s getaway destination.
A three-day trek from Helwak through Chandoli Forest leads to Marleshwar Temple via Chiplun. The destinations are divided because it is not a one-day trek. The trekkers may visit Ram Ghal, Bhairav Gad, and Patharpunj Village on the first day. The second day could include a journey to Prachit Gad via the dense Chandoli Forest and Chandel Village. On the third day, visit Kundi Village, Mahimar Gad, and Marleshwar. If the time and circumstances necessitate an unplanned stay at one of the villages, it can turn into a 4 to 5 day exciting adventure.
On the day of ‘Makarsankranti,’ a celebration of Marleshwar and Girijadevi’s marriage takes place. There is a fair on ‘Mahashivratri’ and ‘Tripuri Poornima.’ The name Marleshwar may have derived from the village of Maral.
