Tiruchanur Padmavathi Temple is a temple dedicated to the goddess Padmavathi or Alamelumanga, Lord Venkateswara’s consort. The Temple is located in Tiruchanur, 5 km from Tirupati, Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh , India. The Alamelu Mangapuram Temple is administered by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.

Alamelu Mangapuram Temple:
This pilgrim centre is popularly known as Alarmelmangapuram (Alar-Lotus, Mel-top, Manga-Goddess, Puram-town) or Alimelumangapuram. According to the legend of the temple, when Goddess Mahalakshmi appeared on the golden lotus, Padmavathi Devi, located in the centre of Padma Sarovaram-a temple tank, became famous by the name of “Alamelu Mangapuram.”
Tiruchanur Padmavathi Temple History:
The arrival of the goddess Padmavathi Devi, Lord Venkateswara’s consort, is recounted in several purenas. There was once, according to a legend, a devout Brahmin named Pundarika. While he performed all the duties prescribed in the Shastras, he did not have a son. At the age of 50, he finally got a son he called Madhava.He carefully raised the boy, made him competent in all branches of learning, and got him married to a devout lady. After some time, Madhava departed from the path of righteousness and pursued another woman. After her death, he wandered like a mad man.
He accompanied a party of pilgrims to Tirumala one day. When he was bathing in the holy lake of Sudarshan and scaling the hills, his sins were washed away. There he heard a voice from the sky asking him to swim in the Swami Pushkarini and to seek the blessings of Lord Varaha Swamy. Later, King Mitravarman of Thondamandalam was born and named Akasharaja.
Akasharaja grew up to be a beautiful and wise prince. He was married to Dharanidevi. The royal couple was sad because they didn’t have children. Akasharaja agreed, on the advice of the priest, to perform a yagna.
When the sacrificial field was ploughed, the couple found a lovely girl in a thousand petal lotuses. The divine voice instructed the king to bring the child up with love and care. The infant was called Padamavathi, as it was located in a lotus (Padma). As Padmavathi grew up, Lord Venkateshwara came to look for her. The divine marriage of Lord Srinivasa and Goddess Padmavathi took place on a grand occasion.The Tiruchanur Padmavathi Temple was built in the time of Tondaman Chakravarthi, who happens to be the elder brother of the goddess Padmavathi.
