mahanandi temple darshan timings are 4.30 am to 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm to 9.30 pm

Mahanandi Temple History:

It dates back over 1,500 years to this ancient temple. The inscriptions of tablets from the 10th century speak of the temple being repaired and reconstructed several times. Mahanandi, Shivanandi, Vinayakanandi, Somanandi, Prathamanandi, Garudanandi, Suryanandi, Krishna nandi (also known as Vishnunandi) and Naganandi are these nine temples.

To celebrate Maha Shivaratri, the Great Night of Shiva, a festival is held here annually during February and March.

Mahanandi Temple Architecture:

The Mahanandi Temple is renowned for its pools of fresh water, called Kalyani or Pushkarni. The temple ‘s architecture demonstrates the strong presence of the Chalukya Kings in this region. The  mahanandi temple Nandyal pools demonstrate the ability of the Vishwakarmas. Three pools surround the main temple: two small pools at the entrance and one large pool inside the temple itself.

With an outdoor pavilion called a mandapa in the centre, this holy tank is 60 square feet (5.6 m2). The tank inlets and outlets are arranged in such a way that the water depth is constantly kept at five feet, allowing pilgrims to bathe in the holy waters. Bathing in the large pool inside is forbidden every day after 5 pm.

A distinctive feature of the water source is that, regardless of the change in seasons, it has a constant flow. The source of the water originates just below Swayambhu Linga at the Garbhagriha (inner shrine). Near the Shiva Linga (symbol of Shiva), one can touch the water. It is possible for devotees to offer prayers and touch the Shiva Linga. This is unusual, because the primary deity is kept away from the touch of the devotees traditionally at temples.

The water is renowned and is always tepid for its crystalline and healing qualities. 2,000 acres (8.1 km2) of fertile land surrounding the village is irrigated by the outgoing water. With rice fields, fruit , vegetable and flower gardens, the surrounding areas are under production. For the mahanandi koneru, the mahanandi temple is well known. The water will be very warm during the winter season and vice versa during the summer season. The water is lukewarm during the early mornings and with the increase in temperature, the water is gradually cooled.
