Bapu Museum (Victoria Museum) Vijayawada :
The Bapu Museum (formerly known as the Victoria Museum) is an archaeological museum in M. G. Vijayawada Road. It was renamed Bapu (film director) in memory of the renowned film director, illustrator, cartoonist and author.
The Victoria museum Vijayawada is managed by the Archaeological department and has a large collection of sculptures , paintings and objects of Buddhist and Hindu relics, with some of them as old as 2nd and 3rd Centuries. The construction of the building is an Indo-European style of architecture and is more than a hundred years old construction.

Bapu Museum History:
The Bapu Museum Vijayawada was created in 1887 as part of the celebrations of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. Robert Sewell, District Collector of Krishna district, laid the foundation stone on 27 June 1887. In 1921, Sri Pingali Venkayya presented Mahatma Gandhi at this place with a tri-colour flag. Initially, the building held manufacturing exhibits.In 1962, it was transformed into an archaeological museum under the auspices of the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s Department of Archaeology and Museums.
The Bapu museum has historical galleries used by rulers, stone-cut writings, coins, spears, body armour, shields, guns, ornamentation, etc. Mahishasura (2nd century) can also be found at the museum as a standing Buddha of the white limestone of Alluru (3rd-4th century), Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga as destroying the buffalo demon.
