Golden Temple Vellore History / Sripuram Golden Temple History:
A 31-year-old ‘godman’ built a Rs300-crore ‘golden temple’ in Sripuram near Vellore in Tamil Nadu. The Vellore Golden Temple, situated on 100 acres of land in a picturesque landscape, was made of 1,5 tons of pure gold.Hundreds of craftsmen and craftsmen have built the temple for six years.
The salient feature of ‘Sripuram’ is the temple of Lakshmi Narayani, whose Vimanam and Ardha Mandapam are overlaid with pure gold, housing the deity of Sri Lakshmi Narayani. Built on 100 acres of land, the temple was established by the charitable trust based in Vellore, Sri Narayani Peedam, led by its spiritual leader Sri Sakthi Amma, also known as ‘Narayani Amma.’
The temple, with its golden covering, has an intricate work of craftsmen specializing in temple art using gold. Each detail was crafted manually, including the conversion of gold bars into gold foils, and then the mounting of copper foils. The gold foil was mounted on the etched copper plates from 9 layers to 10 layers. Every detail in the art of the temple has the meaning of the Vedas.
Sripuram’s design features a star-shaped path (Sri Chakra) in the middle of a lush green landscape with a length of more than 1.8 km. As one walks along this ‘starpath’ to reach the temple in the middle, one can also read various spiritual messages — such as the gift of human birth itself, and the value of spirituality — on the way.
