Kapila Theertham Temple History:

Although the importance of this temple has declined to owe to the extremely popular nearby Temples in Tirumala and Tiruchanoor, it got very strong patronage from the Kings of Vijayanagara in the 13th and 16th centuries, particularly from Saluva Narasimha Deva Raya and the eternally renowned Sri Krishna Deva Raya and some of the subsequent rulers such as Venkatapathi Raya and Aliya Ramaraya, Sri Krishna Deva Raya Son-in-law.

Legend: The Lingam is thought to be self-manifested. Kapila muni is thought to have emerged from the Bilam(Cavity) in the Pushkarini(Theertham) onto the earth.
